About BIPOC Outdoor Adventures (BIPOCOA)

BIPOC Outdoor Adventures Club is dedicated to fostering an inclusive space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) students to engage in affordable and enriching outdoor activities. Our club aims to promote well-being, fitness, and a sense of connection among members while breaking down stereotypes associated with outdoor recreation. We recognize the historical barriers faced by BIPOC communities, including financial constraints, limited resources, and a lack of representation in outdoor spaces. Our club is committed to providing inclusive support, removing financial barriers, and facilitating access to outdoor experiences. We understand the physical, mental, and emotional benefits that nature and outdoor activities offer, especially to BIPOC students. By creating a welcoming environment, we aim to address long-standing injustices and systemic racism that have marginalized BIPOC communities. As participants develop skills in the outdoors, we actively encourage dedicated members to take on leader-in-training roles within the club. This not only helps them build valuable skills but also opens up future opportunities for paid leadership positions in the outdoor field. The demand for such positions has increased since the pandemic, as there is a growing interest in nature-based recreational activities.
